The World Solar Car Challenge will be run from Darwin to Adelaide on 25-31 October 2009.
The First Solar World Challenge was run in 1987 with 23 entrants led by the GM Sunracer, with an average speed of 67km/h.
The aim of the Challenge biannual challenge is to design and build a car capable of travelling across Australia on solar power undertaking the 3,021km journey following the Stuart Highway, from Darwin to Adelaide, in the spirit of friendly competition against others with the same goal.
For October 2009 TAFE SA aims to have:
- Kelly with high school students, competing in the adventure class.
- The Solar Spirit as the fastest solar vehicle in the world in the challenge class
